Woolacombe from the air. |
The head of Woolacombe beach can be seen in the right of the photograph, this then extends across three miles of golden sands all the way to Puttsborough beach.
The small beach in the bottom centre of the photograph is Barricane Beach, known as the shell beach to the locals. A fluke of the current has created a beach entirely made up of shells. Collectors of sea shells should visit after a storm or unusually high tide. On these occasions it can be possible to gather large, rare and exotic sea shells in remarkably good condition.
